We have the pleasure to announce the Call for Papers for our 7th
International HCH and Pesticides Forum, 5-7 June 2003, Kiev Ukraine.

Special attention is given to latest progress on phytoremediation of
pesticides.

Main Forum 2003 objectives:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Technical/scientific international exchange on the progress of the
problems and technical solutions related to obsolete pesticides.
2. Draw more international political attention to the specific problems of
the Central and Eastern European countries as well as New Independent States
with the purpose of finding (inter)national support for the “Establishment
of a POPs/Pesticides Stockpile Fund for Central and Eastern European
Countries (CEEC) and New Independent States (NIS)” in order to remove all
stocks from the region in the next decades.
3. Bring forward the “specific situation and problems” of Ukraine by means
of a broad representation from Government, Research Institutes, NGO’s and
other organisations and persons.
4. New information about the state of the art and progress of all
Central/Eastern European Countries and New Independent States in obsolete
pesticides, also in relation to the implementation of the POPs Convention.

pesticides stocks in contaminated land and water resources
· Monitoring and risk assessment at stocks, in soil, plants, groundwater and
in human bodies

Sponsored Workshop on Phytoremediation for Pesticides Contaminated Soils:

The Federal Environmental Agency of Germany (UBA) sponsors a special
Phytoremediaton workshop.

Main Issues:

1. Present state of the development of the application of phytoremediaton
for the remediation of areas contaminated with unwanted/chloroorganic
pesticides
2. State of the art of pilot-investigations and trials in the individual
countries especially in CEE and CA Countries
3. Modalities for the exchange of data and practical experiences of example
projects and areas
4. Possibilities for support of regional and transboundary projects
5. Evaluation and registration of with unwanted/ chloroorganic pesticides
contaminated areas


Roundtable: “Towards the Establishment of an Obsolete POPs/Pesticides
Stockpile Fund for Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) and New
Independent States (NIS)”

The 7th Forum also wants to give a strong incentive for the future actions,
as a special roundtable on the set up of international co-operation for
"concerted actions" is planned.
This roundtable is a follow-up of the Roundtable: “Regional Initiative
Establishment of a Fund for the Disposal of Obsolete Stockpiles of
Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in Central & Eastern Europe (CEE)”,
held from 12-14 June 2002 in Bratislava, Slovak Republic, as part of the
International Forum on Strategies and Priorities For Environmental
Industries in cooperation with UNIDO, which has given a start for the
international discussion for the need of the establishment of such a fund in
order to eliminate finally these problems in the region.
